International Trauma System
development Program (ITSDP) is the international component of
VCU Division of Trauma & Critical Care. It is a joint effort
between the Division’s injury prevention program, the center
of education for trauma and critical care and the Computing
Support and Information Services (CSIS) of the VCU department
of surgery.
ITSDP
is also a component of the Virginia Commonwealth University
Reanimation Engineering Shock Center (VCURES). VCURES is
multidisciplinary center of excellence involving 8 Colleges,
30 Departments, and more than 50 Investigators. It is a
collaborative effort among clinicians, basic scientists, and
engineers of diverse backgrounds at the VCU Medical and
Academic Campuses to improve the survival from the disease
state called shock. This includes its prevention,
pathophysiologic basis, diagnosis, and treatment.
What do we do?
The main focus of ITSDP is the enhancement and development of
international systems for the prevention, diagnosis, and
treatment of Trauma.
What is our goal?
ITSDP ultimate goal is the provision of total care to the
injured victims in the developing nations through the creation
of flexible trauma systems based on the existing resources and
the variable injury patterns.
How do we operate?
ITSDP primarily operates through collaborative projects with
the local health ministries and existing medical and public
health institutions. ITSDP promotes the development of the
infrastructure of the various interdependent stages of the
trauma system - from injury prevention to critical care
management. |
