Mission Goals

Involve medical students in international evidence-based educational health care development projects.

Train students in public health approaches to problem identification as well as project development, implementation, and evaluation.

Introduce students to the challenges of data management and quality analysis of health care data from low- and middle-income countries.

Introduce students to research-based interventional projects.

Introduce students to the International Classification of Diseases and to outcome measures including injury severity scoring systems.

Identify deficiencies and areas of need within existing health care delivery systems in rural Latin America.

Teach students to design and implement projects based on community health needs.

Assess the impact, progress, and efficacy of these programs within the recipient communities.

Form relationships within the international community to promote intercultural diversity.

Encourage and emphasize the benefits and importance of teamwork.
